Meadville vs. PINE RICHLAND RAMS - Monday, 3/10/2008 Meadville: 1 PINE RICHLAND RAMS: 5 Game Report: AS GOOD AS ADVERTISED… The Meadville Bulldogs - who have been skating through adversity all season long – faced their 2nd defending state champion in the semi-final game for the Penguin Cup; and this one was just too good. The Pine Richland Rams have the air of an all-star team, and the Saads and Trombettas and Loneys – they are as good as advertised. ... Click Here to view full Game Report |

Meadville vs. North Allegheny - Friday, 3/7/2008 Meadville: 4 North Allegheny: 1 Game Report: DOGS DOMINATE FROM THE 1st DROP… DANCZAK TAKES IT PERSONAL… DEFENSE SWARMED… MEADVILLE OUT-HITS 17-1… NICKERSON REACHES MILESTONE… Any atmospheric or home-ice advantage that North Allegheny was hoping to capitalize on was immediately sucked out of the building by the 200+ Meadville faithful who filled the stands to root their “boys” onto victory. And the boys responded to the crowd and the challenge by grabbing the momentum and game by the throat, and really - never letting it go. The 1st period was a scoreless affair but the Dogs had the handle for most of the 15. Meadville won the shots-on 10-6 and had control in all three (3) zones until a late series of penalties put the Dogs down 5 on 3 with 1-minute and 8-seconds to kill. This was the 1st of three (3) 5 on 3s that skewed the final shots total a bit. But the Bulldogs have been fierce on the P-Kill all year long anchored by the most important killer on the ice – the goalie. This night – the Duck was giving “no” ground. Meadville ripped the game open in the 2nd after finishing off the penalties from the prior stanza. 9:50 now the Dogs are up a man. Nickerson driving the high slot, feathers a “saucer” pass over the d-stick and lays it flat on the ice in front of Drew. Finton’s one-timer was “perfect” and the crowd, already buzzing just explodes! 7:19 – the Tigers bitten again by the penalty bug are about the pay the price for the second time. Big Dogs gather in front and are just jamming. Bodies abound but the puck stays loose. Morgan comes in to crash the party and bangs it back. Fedorka gets the A. This goal was all about muscle, desire and will. 2:15 and Meadville back up a man. Dogs working the puck around the horn, Mags in then back out – Finton is playing catch, Brandon looks in then perfectly slides it across into Aaron’s wheelhouse. Nye has the gun loaded and just drops the hammer on the puck - and the nail into the coffin. Max never saw the riser. Dogs up three (3) out-shooting 13-10. Danczak continues to rob the Tigers of any momentum as he kicks, block and gloves away all chances. The 3rd period got messy as the penalty pendulum swung back Meadville’s way doing everything it could to slice into the Dog’s lead. Meadville kills another buck-forty-two 5 on 3, then finishes their business down just one man. Danczak is spectacular. But on the next two-man advantage with 3:30 left in the period, NA finally scores. But this Bulldog Bus was going nowhere – the crowd just got louder and the skating just got harder. 1:21 and the Tiger goalie is on the bench. Meadville handles the 6 on 5 and Morgan, who thrives short-handed, broke through and lined up the 40-footer. It probably wasn’t as easy as it looked, knowing that pay-dirt meant the all-time single-season scoring record in Meadville Bulldog history. Game Notes: Nickerson doesn’t dump, he drives. Magee left nothing on the ice playing all-world and with the heart of a true Bulldog. Allegretti played an intense, physical game. Fedorka is like a Spartan warrior – giving them nothing and taking from them “everything.” While the team was playing hockey, Plunkett was playing chess. NA enjoyed the home-ice edge for the “last change” and it was clear that their coach was working for the match-ups that he wanted. But Jamie continued to confound them with subtle shifts and line adjustments. Wrenches in the spokes make it tough to turn the wheels. The Meadville Bulldogs simply “lit up” the North Allegheny Tigers, there is no other way to call it. The Dogs recorder seventeen (17) effective body-shots that did far more than just loosen the puck. NA – by my count had but 1. Especially the D-Corp who just kept clearing the house in front of their net-minder. The message sent the last two games is loud and it is clear. The Meadville Bulldogs are “bringing it.” So it’ll be the Pine Richland Rams with their spotless 20-0 PIHL record and almost unheard-of +117. And it will be played in the Mellon Area – next Monday night. And these Meadville Bulldogs who have been skating uphill all year long have found a way, found the will to dig deep and do what is necessary to keep moving on. This fight is not over. |
