| Regular Season | Ron Pusz, Jr. became the second player in Pennsylvania scholastic hockey to win a state title all four years, as he captained the '95-'96 team to its fifth consecutive state title in Johnstown, PA. However, it wasn't easy as the Bulldogs lost nineteen games - at that time a program record and had to endure on and off ice distractions. The competition in Pennsylvania was continuing to improve and with each state championship the program won, the bigger the bullseye became. |
| Post-Season | After an easy opening round defeat of Penn Hills, highlighted by Ben Corey scoring the game's final goal, the "Dogs headed to Rostraver to take on a scrappy Gateway team. Meadville prevailed 4-2, but in doing so lost Dave Rekas for the Western Final because of a game misconduct. Upper St. Clair upset Bethel Park in the Western semi-final and the Panthers met the Bulldogs at Southpointe for the right to go to Johnstown for the state championship. Meadville had routed USC twice during the regular season, but that meant nothing as former Penguin player and now current coach Randy Hillier had his USC team ready to play. Current Penguin, Ryan Malone was a freshman on the USC team. Tied at two apiece, the Bulldogs were in overtime in the playoffs for the first time in program history. Dan Leech scored a wrap around goal five minutes into overtime and the `Dogs moved on to face LaSalle. Four days later, Meadville captured its fifth title, as Mike Chornack scored his second goal of the game with just two minutes remaining to lift the `Dogs to a 3-2 win. Chornack was named MVP. |
