GARY "CLARKIE" CLARK
Every year the Bulldog Hockey Club recognizes an individual who has made a difference in the lives of young hockey players and our program.
We are pleased to announce that Gary Clark will be this year's award recipient. Gary has been the voice of Bulldog Hockey from 1987 to 1996 and 1999 to present.
"Clarkie", as he is affectionately known, has been with the Bulldog Hockey team for all eight of the program's State Championships. Over the years, Clarkie has endeared himself to the Bulldog Faithful, calling the games from his perch above the ice surface at center ice. Clarkie was responsible for dubbing the Rec Complex "The House of Chills" early on in his play-by-play career.
A regular contributor to the Bulldog Hockey website, Clarkie is very much a part of the Bulldog Family. When people talk about the Bulldog Hockey program, inevitably, the name of Gary Clark is mentioned.
From all the players and coaches, past and present; we wish to thank you for all that you have done and continue to do!
The next time Coach Jamie Plunkett starts going on about how many great teams we bring in to the Bulldog Invitational Hockey Tournament every January, believe him.

If you remember back 4 months ago, the LaSalle Explorers from Philadelphia defeated Cleveland’s St. Edwards Eagles 4-1 in the tournament championship game. We talked a lot that weekend about how the Explorers appeared to be the best team in the state. We were not wrong.
The LaSalle Explorers routed the Pine Richland Rams in The Pennsylvania State Championship game 9-1 at Johnstown on March 29th. The week before St Edwards defeated Gilmour Academy the 3-1 to win their Ohio state record 11th hockey title.
Pine Richland became the New England Patriots of high school hockey. They came within a “nat’s eyelash” (as Bob Prince used to say) of an undefeated season in their first at the AAA level. They stormed through the playoffs, knocking out perennial contenders Meadville and Bethel Park in successive games. But apparently the Explorers didn’t read the game reports. LaSalle had not been to a state final in 9 years, losing a heartbreaker in the Flyer Cup final a year ago to Holy Ghost Prep 3-2. This year they stormed past the Firebirds 4-1 to earn a spot in the state finals.
I thought that Pine Richland reminded me a lot of some Bulldog teams from years past. They had a dominating three lines and some solid defense. I mentioned to Dick Tedesco after the first period of the Bulldog semi final against the Rams that I thought their defense was a little susceptible and we should have had 3 goals. But we didn’t. And just to show how little I know about hockey, Pine Richland gave up just 2 shots to the Bulldogs in the next period and a half.
My question is this: Just how good is LaSalle? If they dismantled a team as good as Pine Richland, not to mention the Ohio State Champions, they have to be mentioned among the greatest teams in Pennsylvania hockey history. More than a few heads were turned when they stormed through the Meadville tournament in January. They had no weaknesses. They were that good. And now they have proved it.

It is hard to believe, but we have one game
remaining in the month of January and then head
in to the final stretch of games during the month
